Throughout the nation,
communities, cities, states, and large industries are developing new
strategies to deal with our common solid waste crisis. The most
common forms of recycling involve plastics, glass, cardboard, and
aluminum cans. However, with constant changes in technology and the
greater role that technology plays in our every day lives, we often
take every-day simple items like laser toners, ink cartridges, cell
phones, and PDA’s for granted. Most people are unaware that it
takes three quarts of oil and 2.5 pounds of plastic to make one ink
cartridge. Additionally, it takes 1,000 years to completely
decompose a laser toner or ink cartridge. What’s more, only 13% of
the U.S. population actually recycles their empty laser toners & ink
cartridges. The remaining 87% of the population throw away their
empty laser toners and ink cartridges, which eventually find their
way into landfills. The numbers are astounding, 500-million ink
cartridges and 100-million laser toners find their way into
landfills each-and-every year (based on
2001 / 2002 figures).
The majority of the
population understands that (i) we need to recycle and (ii) we need
to establish a more comprehensive recycling program than what
currently exists today. At Infoprojex,
we have come up with an innovative way to recycle and dispose of
many used technology items, such as: laser toners / ink cartridges /
PDA’s / cell phones / media storage tapes and more. We are able to
integrate the minds and passions of environmentalists, educators,
with fiscal minded individuals.
